After BOPEE Scam, It is CAPD Scam 10 thousand quintals of rice missing Srinagar, Nov 22:Crime Branch sleuths Friday raided the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) rice stores located in South Kashmir’s Letapora, Awantipora town. The sleuths sealed the stores after it was found that about 10 thousand quintals of rice worth Rs one crore was missing from there. According to reports CB has received a couple of complaints from the residents of Letapora in which they had alleged that instead of distributing rice amoung people, the CAPD employees in league with officials sell it in black. Incharge Superintendent of Police Crime Branch while confirming the raid told CNS that the rice stores of CAPD have been sealed and a case has been registered. “We have registered a case vide FIR number 29/2013 under section 409 of RPC and investigation has been taken up. So far we have not arrested any person in this regard, however, we have called certain officials for questioning,” he said. Refuting the claims of Crime Branch, CAPD Director Mir Mushtaq told CNS that it was his department which has initiated action. “We don’t know where from CB sleuths appear. We were doing zero balancing of all the stores and after the inquiry it was found that something is fishy. Before we could have initiated action against the culprit, CB raided the godowns,” he said. He further said that they have constituted a committee to probe the matter. “It will be only after the submission of report that we could initiate action against the culprit,” he said. Meanwhile, residents of Rawatpora, Ajas of Bandipora town Friday staged a protest against the CAPD. The protestors alleged that the local CAPD Kerosene dealer sells the kerosene in black and supplies them only 2 liters of kerosene for three to four months. When contacted Assistant Director CAPD Bandipora, Shoeb Noor told CNS that appropriate action would be taken against the Kerosene dealer if the allegations prove correct. “I will send a Supervisor there to ascertain the facts,” he said.
