After Dad passed away I knew Mama and Nana would have to move out - TopicsExpress

After Dad passed away I knew Mama and Nana would have to move out of the old family house. Nana was in a wheelchair and Mama was having to use a cane to get about and there was just no way they could make it in the old house, but I also knew I would have to wait until Mama realized it. It took her a few months, but she had to finally admit it. Hubby and I talked with her and told her that we would build her and Nana a handicapped accessible garden home all one level with things fixed so it would be easier on them. I saw a spark of life come back into Mama, here was a project that she was excited about and it helped to get her mind off of missing Dad. Hubby and his crew did all the construction and I helped Mama to decide and pick out everything that was needed. Hubby had been a builder for over 30 years and I was his partner so we pretty much knew the ropes, but it was new to Mama and she was having fun. The only thing she and I bumped heads on was the color for the walls....she wanted purple. Now dont get me wrong purple is my favorite color too, but for the interior walls? I knew she would have her way so I gently guided her toward a light grey with a faint hint of purple and white trim, she was happy. What she was ecstatic about though was her laundry room, for the first time in her life she had her laundry room in a convenient area on the same level as all the rest of the house. I teased her she was finding clothes to wash just so she could use her new laundry room. Bless her heart she loved her new little house so much, I just wish she could have enjoyed it longer. She only lived for a little less than a year after she moved in. I can still hear her laughing about having purple walls in her house
