After John Ridley won his oscar last week for adapting the 12 - TopicsExpress

After John Ridley won his oscar last week for adapting the 12 Years A Slave screenplay, Esquire re-posted an essay he wrote for them in 2006 called The Manifesto of Ascendency for the Modern American Nigger. In his article he aggressively states his hatred for lesser Blacks, and those who blame the system for our incarceration rates, poor schooling and high rate of unplanned pregnancies. A few days later, I read an article titled, Oscar Winning Screenwriter John Ridleys N***er Problem which tears his condescending ass to shreds by simply stating the vast amount of systemic inequalities in our system. But my take is that both articles ignored 1 simple truth: They are both right on some points and wrong on some points. Ridley’s parameters for what makes a Black person a nigger is stupid, just like his classification on what constitutes being an ascended Black. But the counter to his ignorance is not an over-dependence on victimization. If we cannot honestly address issues in our community with equal attention to systemic oppression and individual choice, then we will never achieve true freedom. We DO have to battle systemic racism - but we ALSO have to learn to do better on our OWN as well. thisisyourconscience/2014/03/the-anti-intellectualism-debate-ascended-blacks-vs-niggers/
