After Midnight Philosophy, continued: Its my chosen method to try to respond to perceived denigration or criticism with something of value, not necessarily even close to the subject of the discounting. My object is to make my surroundings more comfortable for me and everybody else. In that light, understanding that the disagreement is about whether I am habitually a disgusting drunk or not, I offer this unexpected nugget that appeared out of nowhere in my poor mind. Particle physicists know that every choice creates new universes. This is not an unlimited creation: only the paths that are possible have validity. My choices define what is possible and, thus, shape the future. In the conscious choice, a life is defined and a path is chosen. If I will not take a given direction, it does not appear among the possibilities. Rather than exert myself to try to be seen as some kind of hero, let me exert myself to actually be that hero. That mean making choices that that hero would make, even if it means giving up possible rewards that might come from making choices the hero would never make. Even so, it remains possible to consciously choose to be a hero. By definition, heroes never feel superior to others. If they do that, they are psychopaths. Some people can stop smoking, after years of loving to smoke, and some people cant do that. Some people can choose to be heroes, seeing a local need for them. Others, failing to choose to be heroes, might make trying to be a hero something to be ashamed of.
