After Mik Thompson recieved an award as Constable of the Year on June 26, 2024 he was honored by the elected officials & employees of Goliad County Wednesday, July 26, 2014 at a reception from Noon-2. In addition to Hamburgers with all the trimmings desert was a cake sporting a picture of Mike. Mike has been Constable of Pct. 2, having been twice elected to that position, since 2008. I know the citizens of Goliad County have respected and appreciated him. He served almost 26 years for Aransas Pass PA & had to pay for his own shadow box to commemorate the badge & community he devote a quarter of a century to. He was nominated for the State award by Justice of the Peace Steve Kennedy with letters of recommendation from Co. Atty. Rob Biamonte, Asst. DA Terry Breen. Also attending the reception was John Burdette & his Aunt Sharon. Mike solved an I year old cold case where Delbert Mills murdered his wife Elaine Mills by setting fire to the house leaving her & their 7 year old son John to die in the fire. The day the sentence of Life without the possibility if Parole was delivered, Johns adoption was final, changing his name c from John Mills to John Burdette. John graduated in June from a high school in Victoria. During the 2 hour reception John told attendees his goal was to become an attorney to serve as a prosecutor. Mike & I plan to always be involved in Johns life. For you AP folks, you can imagine what an emotional experience this case took on having so many similarities to the Mize case in 1987.
