After a devastating few months I made the mistake of momentarily - TopicsExpress

After a devastating few months I made the mistake of momentarily feeling sorry for myself. As I do in these times, I called my best friend. A man I have known for over 30 years. I began to rail against the unfairness of my life. His response, suck it up buttercup. You dont understand I raged...life is unfair I tried to convince him how unfair my life was. Yep was his only response. I continued to rage against the machine. Telling him, I keep seeing scum and villainy rewarded. People undeserving seem to always catch a break. Whereas I always try to speak the truth and do the right thing and I always seem to be punished for it. Again, his response was yep. Then he said something that was profound to a person like me, This is the plight of a hero. When the whole world is unfair and he knows he will be punished for doing the right thing...he still does it...and you are a hero my friend. When I was a teenager I watched my best friend drive drunk women home whom he had never met to make sure they were safe and unmolested. Never once thinking there anything else to do but be a good guy. When he was old enough I watched my best friend write that blank check to his country and serve as a front line infantry soldier, because he felt it was his duty. He married and has been for 14 years (if memory serves) and I watched him remain forever faithful to his wife. I saw as he adopted his step daughter and loved her as one of his own. I witnessed as he raised two children, always putting their needs above his own. This man will quite literally give you the shirt off his back if he can help you...because he is a genuinely, good man. ...and the whole time, the world was unfair to him... I wish the SCA knighted people for real world achievements, because he far surpasses the qualities needed for such an accolade. Scott Wearing you are my friend, my brother and my hero.
