After a flurry of comments and questions when the Chief Auditor of CDFC uploaded the audit report, the interest in the Dree expenditure seems to be on the wane now. I still want to share one of the reasons for such high expenditure - lack of volunteerism for common cause. There seem to be very few people who are willing to lend their time and expertise for the cause of our festival. Prominent among them this year were Nending Ommo and Duyu Tabyo who did excellent anchoring and added color to the festival. On the other hand, many insisted that they be paid for the contributions they made towards the festivals. I think such payments made a substantial contribution to increased expenditure. That is one reason I was happy when there were lots of protests at over-expenditure to the tune of 14 lakh rupees. I had a faint hope that some of the commentators may come forward to volunteer in the subsequent Drees. Is there some hope, friends? Or should we continue to pay ourselves?
