After a long debate, i was called by the speaker at 4.30 just a few minutes before the closing statements and vote. This is my short speech. I will significantly reduce what I was going to say to the content of an e-mail that I was sent by two constituents who live in a small village called Shelley. They had sat up and talked about the situation, because they realised the seriousness of the prospect of war. They had on their minds the civilian casualties that may follow and the dire consequences for hostages if the country takes part in air strikes. What they said encapsulates why I will support the motion. There comes a time when it is paramount for the collective to defend citizens of other nations whose governments cant defend them. There is a need to show that as a country we are prepared to defend our own citizens
