After a morning shower dumped plenty of water on the Orange County - TopicsExpress

After a morning shower dumped plenty of water on the Orange County Fair Speedway oval, the track crew went to work and gave the racers a super fast racing surface. The heat races were caution free and it was Jeff VanSteenburg setting the fastest time of the evening turning the 5/8 mile oval in 19.385 with an average speed of 116.069mph! After winning the first heat race, Jeff took the gamble and chose to start twelfth, entering the Kennedy Towing Challenge, and with a win, would collect a $400 bonus! After our familiar 4-abreast salute to the fans on both sides of the long straight aways, Keith McIntyre and Mark Taylor brought the field to the green flag. Entering turn one, a car got sideways in the front of the pack, collecting at least four cars ending the night for VanSteenburg in his Harry Hamilton #1. Mike Kiser ended up with his #29k on it side and also done for the night was TSRS regular, #26v Sean Kirkpatrick , who was making his first ever CRSA A-main start after a fine second place finish in the heat race and pole sitter, Keith McIntyre. The original restart put the #37 of Scott Flammer on the pole along side Taylor and it was the #37 jumping into the lead coming out of turn two followed by four place starter Josh Pieniazek , Taylor, Tyler Chartrand, and Middletown native, Scott Goodrich. The local fans were also keeping their eyes on the winner of the last CRSA show at OCfS, Brittany Tresch. The Tresch Racing #2 started in the nineteenth position and she was on a mission. Goodrich quickly moved his #30 into the fourth spot as Chad King slid into position number five. Lap six saw the #9 of Gary Palmer power past the #24 for fifth andTresch already had moved into the top ten. Winner of the first event for 2013 at OCFS, Flammer, had it dialed in again and started to pull away from the field. Pieniazek, Taylor, Goodrich and Palmer remained the top five with a lot of dicing going on back through the field. Lap 16 saw the #30 power past Pieniazek for second as the #3p was starting to get loose in the corners. The #2 of Tresch had her tires coming in and was running eighth at this point praying for a caution. The second yellow of the night finally came on lap 18 of the 20 lapper for Chartrands #12t as his motor let go filling the front stretch with smoke. The field was set for a two lap dash with Goodrich now on the back bumper of Flammer. The 5t of Taylor, 3p, 17 of points leader,John Matrafailo, Tresch , 9 and 24 were nose to tail at the restart cone. With lots of side by side action throughout the field, it was Flammer taking the checkers two car lengths ahead of Goodrich, who finally broke his string of bad luck, Mark Taylor a strong run for third, John Matrafailo, and Josh Pieniazek hung on for fifth. Brittany Tresch , Chad King, Gary Palmer, fifteenth starter ,Jordan Thomas, with another constant run was nineth and the #X of Ben Rizzo rounded out the top ten.
