After a successful launch at SXSW, the documentary 100% T-Shirt opens at Cinema du Parc on March 21st !!! At a packed special event at SXSW in Austin, sponsored by Montreal based T-shirt company Gildan, more than 500 enthusiasts discovered the story of an iconic garment. Now, this new documentary and web platform The 100% T-Shirt Project is coming to Montreal. You reach for one every morning, you’re wearing one all day, but what do you know about its origins, its evolution, and its explosion into pop culture? In only 50 years, the simple T-Shirt has become essential to everyones wardrobe. Directed by Kaveh Nabatian and produced by Ina Fichman, 100% T-Shirt takes you on a journey through the history of this superstar garment. While 98% of the world’s population wears it today, it wasn’t so long ago that the T-shirt was an obscure undergarment worn only by American sailors. In a lively and engaging tone, 100% T-Shirt brings you to the people who make them and the people who wear them, taking the pulse of an industry grappling with the many mutations of the global economy. The documentary and the website (100tshirt.net) also feature a variety of T-shirt stories – short anecdotes about favourite T-shirts told by Montréalers including Sugar Sammy, Arcade Fires Richard Parry and soccer player Marie-Eve Nault. Over the next few months, users and viewers will have the opportunity to share their stories online. At SXSW, the team collected more than 40 stories from T-shirt aficionados, several of which will be featured on the web platform. The interactive platform The 100% T-Shirt Project, produced by Intuitive Pictures and Toxa will also launch a “T-shirt for a cause’s initiative“. This design competition will be centered around 4 unique causes and original T-shirts will be printed and then sold to benefit these causes. 100% T-Shirt, the documentary was written and directed by Kaveh Nabatian and produced by Ina Fichman of Intuitive Pictures in association with Canal D and the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund. Following the Montreal screenings, Gildan and Intuitive Pictures will continue their roll-out of The 100% T-Shirt Project across North America.
