After a truly scary year, Im incredibly grateful to say that today is my Dads birthday and hes still here and cancer FREE. The older I get the more alike we are, both good and bad. More than a little crazy, this man is incredibly loyal to God, Country, Family. He loves his guns, his overalls, his ancient truck, his cats, would gladly lay down & die for his grandsons and my Momma. Many people may see the overalls and not realize how intelligent he is (ask him anything about history, anything), may not know that he is the one who pays for many things, for many people, the one who quietly slips people cash when others are in need, without any expectation of recognition. They wont know that he quit the coaching/teaching job he loved & went to work for his father (something he said he would never do) so my Mother could afford to stay home and raise us. They wont know that he put his life on hold and helped take care of not only his mother but his mother in law in their own homes when they became terminally ill. They wont know that he has spent his retirement raising his grandsons so they wouldnt have to go to daycare with strangers. That he knows the words to ALL the Dr Seuss books by heart now and more often than not has sweet Drew in his lap rocking and reading to him. That he has saved 75 cents of every 1$ hes ever made so he can leave it to others. I take comfort in the fact that I know these things and am able to tell anyone who will listen. Happy Birthday Daddy we love you so.
