After a very busy few days in Ottensen (Thank you to all our great customers by the way!) we’re back with the little green house. Today as a celebration of cold and windy we have these beautify herring bone,l lambswool scarves from Studio Donegal. These scarves are a traditional weave in contrasting colors so called because because it resembles the skeleton of a herring fish. This classic pattern goes with everything and looks equally good be you man or woman! Hand woven in Donegal in the northwest of Ireland and then cut and finished at home by local women. They also have great rolled fringes and measure 183 x 24cm.... Im still talking about the scarves of course, not the women :) Here’s a little about the mill: For over one hundred years a hand-weaving mill has existed in the Irish village of Kilcar. In the sixties, the mill made the shift from hand weaving to modern machinery with the hope of becoming more competitive. It was soon apparent, however, that something crucial had been lost. A decade later, Studio Donegal was founded by Kevin and Wendy Donaghy with the goal of maintaining and preserving the long running tradition of hand-weaving in South West Donegal. They form an important part of the social fabric of the area and many of the yarns used in our weaving operation are created in an adjacent spinning mill, Donegal Yarns. Today, thirty years later, the Studio enjoys its second generation of family ownership and their son Tristan has now taken the helm. If you’d like to see their work for yourself then come by the Chriatmas market in Ottensen. We’ll be here until around 19:00 tonight and tomorrow from 11:00 til just before 20:00. See you soon!
