After almost ten years of living in the country, the notion of moving back to the city often boils down to two issues for me: 1) Pro: I will gain a fast internet connection. I do digital audio and video production for a living, and I deliver all my product online. With my hayseed country DSL connection, even the smallest file can take hours. I edit during the day and upload during the night--because I know it will take all night for my files to upload. 2) Con: I will lose my free shooting range. I know many of my fb friends arent into guns, but I am. I have various sidearms and long arms. When I want to shoot, all I have to do is step outside to my own personal range and shoot. Most of my gun-loving friends have to carve out some time and then pay for access to a shooting range. Considering the fact that I work from home, youd think that the two would combine well. I produce some audio or video, then get frustrated with the slow upload speed. So I blow off some steam by going out back and shooting stuff. But I dont. While I edit audio and video almost every day, I havent gone out back to test my marksmanship in weeks! Today, Im gonna combine the two. Ive just finished a video that will take a couple hours to upload. Kim and I both have a bit of a stomach bug (hopefully just something we ate yesterday), so Ive already told her that Im not making dinner tonight. Instead of making dinner, Im going to enjoy living in the country tonight. Free shooting range, here I come! Tonights theme: 45s. 1911 45 ACP handgun, and 45 Long Colt rifle. And to my work friends who see this post, dont worry, Ill keep an eye on the upload.
