After an 8-hour legislative proceedings at the QC City Hall--with very vocal opposition from the other side of the fence-- the City of Stars has just affirmed its commitment to being a Gender-Fair City with the adoption on 2nd reading of the anti-discrimination prohibition for LGBT people both in private and public spaces and providing penalties and affirmative actions thereof. The Association of Transgenders in the Philippines and Quezon City Pride Council along with other LGBT civil society organizations and community-based organizations attended the Council session to support the passage of the local legislation. We would like to thank Hon. Vice-Mayor Josefina Joy Belmonte for a very powerful steering of the measure up to its enactment and the brave lead that Hon. Mayen Juico, principal author of the ordinance has so successfully defended together with co-authors Hon. Doray Delarmente and Hon. Aly Medalla. By far, this ordinance is the most comprehensive of its kind in the country. Congratulations to everyone!
