After an expensive digging accident, Asotin County is now part of Avistas Call Before You Dig program. Avista was putting in utility lines and hit a storm drain pipe. That damage is costing the countys Public Works Department $300 to repair. After this accident county officials found out theyre not a part of the Call Before You Dig list. Which is Avistas subscription agreement to lay out where theres any underground gas and electric lines in the area. That way, when people call Avistas 811 number, a representative can tell them where on their property they cant dig. Nez Perce County and several other surrounding areas are already part of it and each one has information on Avistas website about the steps people need to take before digging.
