After an hour of long interview, as soon as it was done, I - TopicsExpress

After an hour of long interview, as soon as it was done, I realized I clicked OK button and the precious recording file was instantly all gone. It was not OK to save, but OK to delete...While walking in the campus, when was last time I had pleasant walking!, I tried to remember what was said and asked. I sat down and typed what can be retrieved, although I cant make them in sentences and paragraphs yet. I dont really remember how I was studying when I was in the final year of my high school. If you are familiar with the life of 19-year-old Korean, you should know how they life goes. I was of course doing my best, but cant really recall if it was very tough to study or I was often stressed or not. What I can remember is some nights when I finished self-studying in 독서실, the privately run reading room, I spent a couple of hours chatting with my friend outside of the building. We laughed so loud for nothing funny. I only remember those a few fun nights, but cant really remember if I was devastated for endless studying. These days, I find studying really pleasant and seriously felt how important to learn more so that I can teach more. But...some of you may believe it could be a half-lie, YES, studying is very tough!!! especially when you are equipped with quite ordinary cognitive skills and the rooms in your brain are not always vacant. I never felt mental labour would be this hard, but it was, I cant count how many nights I passed out as soon as I arrive home. However, everything is genuinely appreciated and I still find all the things pleasant. I have to read so many hours to understand, seriously sometimes, only few pages; I sometimes become blank despite practices and confidence, which I thought I had; and I have to blame myself for not waking up in the middle of night - all of these things will not be recalled after a few years, like I dont recall any hardship from university entrance exam, which I must have gone through. One of the things that make me happy these years is some stunning paragraphs that I find in the articles. When I feel oh, its my story!!!, I am happy and forget it was a reading for my papers or class. Here, I dedicate one paragraph from Brent et al. (2006), which some of you cant agree more in the last sentence of quoted paragraph (capital letter by me): Being a college professor requires doing a number of things that graduate school does not teach you to do, including designing and starting up a research program and getting it funded, attracting and managing graduate students, finding and working with appropriate faculty or industrial collaborators, planning courses and delivering them effectively, writing assignments and tests that are both rigorous and fair, dealing with classroom management problems and cheating and students with a bewildering assortment of academic and personal problems, doing what it takes to learn about and integrate into the campus culture, and finding the time to do all that and STILL have a life.
