After enjoying some Carl Sagan-related posts by Larry Burke - TopicsExpress

After enjoying some Carl Sagan-related posts by Larry Burke recently I was treated to a re-run of the breathtaking 1980 TV series, Cosmos, last night. The opening music, images and words of Carl Sagans stunning series sets the tone really. Last night, professor Brian Cox called it the best science series in the history of television. Cant argue. https://youtube/watch?v=R7n71pm0K04 Carl was a great man, who was, as you might expect, ahead of his time. This quote, from his book Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, underlines this. “Humans–who enslave, castrate, experiment on, and fillet other animals–have had an understandable penchant for pretending animals do not feel pain. A sharp distinction between humans and animals is essential if we are to bend them to our will, make them work for us, wear them, eat them–without any disquieting tinges of guilt or regret. It is unseemly of us, who often behave so unfeeling toward other animals, to contend that only humans can suffer. The behavior of other animals renders such pretensions specious. They are just too much like us”. Carl also called whaling murder. Sourced from Skeptical Vegan: skepticalvegan/2011/11/09/happy-b-day-carl/
