After getting about 1 hour worth of sleep last night, Im waiting for day shift to show I gave up trying to do anything on the night shift. Her alarms went off all night while he sat 10 feet away. He closed the door to her room (this is ICU and the door hasnt been closed since we got here) stating that he didnt want the noise from outside the room to disturb her the only problem with that the alarms disturbed her a lot worse. He kept upping her blood pressure meds now her pressure is really low but before this she was at a good point with a whole lot less meds. For the alarms I waited for him to get his butt out of his chair if he was working on the computer I waited 10 minutes and then told him if he was playing on the phone I only waited 5 minutes each time the alarms went off his butt was firmly planted in his chair. Then the one time I did doze off I awake to alarms and she has scooted herself down with her legs hanging off the bed. He of course is sitting out there ignoring the monitor and IV alarm. He took away her ice chips. I have swabs but she is getting all hoarse and barely able to talk again plus her mental state has gone back down not sure if thats all the meds he gave her or the fact the alarms kept waking us up. How am I supposed to leave here with this kind of care. Was considering going home today for a couple of days but now Im afraid what I would come back too. Going to tell day shift I want it put in her chart no male nurses as primary and when this is all done I will be filing a formal complaint I have notes and pictures of times and what occurred. I dont want to do to much now because I can see if I push it too much it will comprise her care further or they will restrict when I can be here. Basically they have the upper hand at the moment. Hopefully her dietician comes in and I can get it clearly stated in her chart that she can have ice chips and water.
