After getting the OK from Richmond Valley Council (there are protocols) I visited the Bentley camp and blockade site this morning. It was truly uplifting. First to see the camp through the early morning mists and then to see the fantastic organisation at the camp site. There was a great calm and quiet among the people I met- farmers, families, people heading to day jobs, Knitting Nannas, an Anglican minister, Aboriginal people, hippies, older women who have travelled from areas where coal and gas have already wrecked communities in NSW and Qld. I talked to lots of people and then walked up the roadside path to the Blockade site to see a farmer taking a stint on top of the very high tripod, people beside various lock on installations and others just sitting in groups talking and on alert. Everywhere there was a strong sense of purpose and a commitment to safety. This is a well organised site. If you feel youd like to go, please do so. You will gain a deeper sense of the commitment and resolve of the people there. Even if you can only stay for a little while, you will feel part of this incredible community action.
