After having researched the candidates that I am aware of for SLCo - TopicsExpress

After having researched the candidates that I am aware of for SLCo Assessor (there may be more nominations between now and the election on September 19, 2013), in my personal opinion I believe Kevin Jacobs is the best qualified candidate. He was serving as chief deputy to former SLCo Assessor Lee Gardner prior to his retirement and is currently the acting SLCo Assessor. Kevin served 12 years as the Director of Administration and 10 years as the finance officer for the SLCo Assessor’s office and is also a Certified Public Accountant. Kevin was responsible for developing the on the spot vehicle registration, something that benefits us all. He has the administrative, management and fiscal experience to lead the office in a fiscally sound manner. He has been an active member of the SLCo Republican Party for many years, having served in the position of precinct chair, delegate, as well as other positions. While all of the candidates are licensed appraisers, none appear to have the extensive background in administration that Kevin has, including being a CPA, nor have they managed a budget or staff the size of Salt Lake County’s. • One of the candidates works for a much smaller assessors’ office, less employees and a significantly smaller budget and has very limited administrative experience. He only recently registered as a Republican this year, seemingly only to run for this position. • Another candidate worked for the SLCo Assessors’ office, but had soon left to pursue his own businesses. One wonders why he wants to return to the county office. While he sounds good in his literature, a comparison of his resume to his literature does not reflect the claims he is making. It does not appear that he has the fiscal and administrative background that Kevin has and to the best of my knowledge has not been overly active in the party. • The third candidate currently works in the SLCo Assessors’ office, but has not had the same fiscal or administrative responsibility, as has Kevin. He also personally told me that he is not political and has not been interested in being active in the party. While several good people have indicated their interest in this position, when I review the qualifications of each of these candidates, it is very clear to me that Kevin is the most qualified of the candidates, not only overseeing the $12 Million budget, but having supervised and led the SLCo Assessors’ office. In an office of this size with a $12 Million budget and 105 employees, I feel it is imperative that we elect an assessor who has the experience to continue to run the office in a fiscally sound manner and in accordance to our Republican principals. Since this is a partisan office it is important that we have a county wide elected official who is an active Republican, who supports our Republican values and is willing to work for the good of the party. It appears it would be hard for any of the candidates to have the same fiscal and administrative background as Kevin, for this reason I am going to support Kevin Jacobs for SLCo Assessor and encourage all of you to do so as well.
