After joining the company a little over six months ago, I have been asked to be the new CTO (Chief Technology Officer) of ComputeNext (4 year old, 80 person startup). I accepted the offer and it was officially announced last Friday to the other executives and today to the next tier of Solution Architects. The news will propagate from there downward. While this doesnt come with the 7-figure salary yet (were still privately funded), this is a momentous title and will open many doors in my career going forward. Im terrified and excited at the same time as this will mean a tremendous amount of work and pressure, but the long term benefits will be immeasurably rewarding. It also means I need to double-down on learning everything and anything I can about Cloud computing and related areas like SaaS (and all the eleventy bajillion derivatives of aaS). In addition Ill need to ramp up on every facet of our technology and code stacks. Just thinking about that seems overwhelming, but I embrace the challenge! Id like to take a moment to thank some of my mentors along the way including Alex St. John, Jeremy Kenyon, Chad Storey, Brett Helsel, Rob Gilde, Ahmed Bortokali & David Roser, Paul Danset, Mike Easterling, Collin Shroy, Clement & Thomas Picquet and John Branch.
