After looking at the wiring for the front indicators, it looked as if the wires ran right back under the tank to the turn signal module, so i decided to join the new wires to the old to keep it simple and give me some slack in the unlikely event that I decide to fit some humungous apehangers at a future date. After trying a few times to solder a decent join I finally got a decent one (my soldering skills leave a lot to be desired), which worked. After heating the shrink wrap to separate the two wires, then shrink wrapping the complete join, they didnt work properly. Obviously a short somewhere in the heat shrink. I looked for an alternative method on the interweb and discovered heat shrink butt connectors (sounds painful). Well you learn something every day. A crimp style insulated butt connector that when heated shrinks and the heat also melts adhesive that seals the joint and makes it waterproof. I never knew they existed until yesterday. So this morning it was off to Halfords to get some connectors. The robbing b*****ds charged me over £5 for four. They are a fraction of that on fleabay. A few minutes stripping, crimping and heating up and they were up and running. Surplus wire tucked behind the headlight and nose fairing and hey presto, job done. Probably not as good as a soldered join but a hell of a lot less hassle!
