After months of sitting untouched on the wall I looked up at my neglected canvas last night and finally saw another piece of the image. To be honest, I jumped up from my chair, flew across the floor, and grabbed the chalk so fast that I think Mike was concerned for my safety. Something about the way the grass in the bottom left seemed to be bending made me see a tree trunk behind it. At first I was thinking of drawing just a stump, but once the moon rose up past the horizon I could hear the faint breeze rustling through a bough of fresh green leaves that stretched over the path and beautifully framed the rising moon. Once the branch was sketched in I saw past it to a stand of conifers resting on the other side of this little inlet of the lake. Perhaps in a few more hours or months I will finally see what rests on the other side of this lake so that I can draw it as well. It could so easily be a cliche little cabin, but somehow I dont think there is one out there. This is no well tended stone walkway were standing on after all, but some lost little deer path leading down to a refreshing drinking hole still safely hidden by the forest. Thats the trouble with such organic art that doesnt draw from any special image or inspiration; you never know how big the painting is until it is finished, nor how long it will take. But for now I think its coming along nicely :)
