After police forced out the media, arrested several journalists, and stopped human rights watchdogs at gunpoint, the crowds dispersed into the surrounding neighborhoods. Police put out a call for all nearby county police to converge on Ferguson, and soon every street was lined with police from all over the area. With the media presence shell-shocked and scared off, mine-resistant APCs were cruising the neighborhoods, firing rubber bullets, tear gas, and screaming abusing language at anyone left on the street anywhere, many who had just fled the tear gas at the protest and were helping each other deal with the effects and injuries. It was brutal martial law, with no cameras left to record the events, but many heard it live from citizen journalists like this one:
