After reading Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Marabigo became obsessed with building a semi-autonomous machine. Labeled a “suspicious, somewhat arrogant, though frequently brilliant and sometimes philanthropic man” by some, Marabigo was wary to clone his brain within his machine, so instead chose to give it a replica of his heart. He called his machine Hortensia, and attempted to bring her to the 1901 worlds fair. On their journey, Hortensia became besotted with a train car, and ran off with him in the night, leaving Marabigo alone - to his death, he was the only person able to vouch for her existence (along with a very angry and confused railway conductor). https://vimeo/84144347
