After reviewing a few fairy tales that entail a princess in a tower guarded by a dragon, I cant help but speculate that perhaps this was a deal made between the King and the dragon. Its a set up, really. By placing a princess in the tower, you give able bodied men a goal for charging in to the dragons keep. Thus giving the dragon a supply of food, without ever having to journey out to burn a town or kingdom just to eat. Like the grimm fairy tales, this is dark but logical twist, as the scarifice of the daughters freedom ensures safety of the people. As well as the chance of one warrior succeeding in slaying the dragon, solving the problem. I can see the dragon taking this deal as well, as they are often quite many centaries old. Which as Ive encountered with most older aged people, there comes a sense of pride in their wisdom.
