After school today, as you know, we had a very special event in our gymnasium where 73 of our students, their siblings and staff members had their long hair cut and donated to make wigs for those undergoing chemotherapy. This, of course, would not have been possible without a team of 16 stylists from the community who donated their time and expertise to make it happen. Along with the donors and those cutting were all those who pitched in to help, like MacArthur teachers always do. From Laura McCue and Stacy Phillips who organized the event, to Mary Anne Sanchez who kept the line moving, to junior Mordecai Strongin who picked up a broom and kept sweeping, to Bernadette Bissoondial, Tammy Mayer, Kerry Schaefer, Debbie Clark, Debbie Morra, and students who kept supplies moving, to all of the students who baked treats to sell for fundraising and reached over $500 for breast cancer research and to our very special and very patient custodial staff– we salute your spirit of volunteerism and the excellent role model that you are for our students. I can’t think of a nicer way to have spent the afternoon of the last day of classes.
