After seeing several postings citing an article from HumaneWatch bashing HSUS for its top managements allegedly exorbitant salaries, I did some research. According to a watchdog group that did a survey of animal rights based companies, including the National Audubon Society, ASPCA, and others, HSUSs CEO, Wayne Pacelle, makes just under $130K per year. In terms of CEO compensation in this Country, this is pocket change. Many of HSUS nonprofit comparators CEOs - groups like Audubon - make in the 300s. I am all for donating to local groups and causes rather than big organizations, but I strongly suggest not relying on HumaneWatch as a credible source of information about HSUS.
