After sharing my homemade crouton recipe yesterday I had an idea for those of you with kids who will simply not eat a salad. What if you put a dozen or so croutons in their salad bowl along with only 1 or 2 pieces of lettuce? Tell them it has to be eaten together so if they want the croutons theyll need to eat the lettuce as well. (We have a 1 bite rule and I always tell my kids Just because you dont like something it wont hurt you to try a bite.) Then over time maybe 3 or 4 pieces of lettuce show up in their bowl along with the yummy, crunchy croutons. And 6 months or a year from now maybe theyll be so used to the idea of salad they wont even notice when you start giving them closer to normal proportions in their salad bowl. Just a thought. If you have any tips for getting reluctant kids to eat (and actually enjoy) salad please share in the comments!! I got my youngest to start eating salad by wrapping glazed pecans inside individual pieces of lettuce...she had to eat the lettuce to get the pecan and eventually it worked!
