After stopping by the David Hockney opening tonight at the de Young Museum and then taking in the divine Joey Ariass show at Feinsteins at The Nikko, I headed over to the Fairmont where there was a private gathering of some of Davids friends to celebrate his opening. It was the perfect ending to a great night in San Francisco. And made it feel like home. Or begin to. Here I am in some photos at the Fairmont gathering. One with David. One with my old buddy Joan Agajanian Quinn who I worked with at Andy Warhols Interview back in the 1980s. She hasnt changed a bit. One with Gregory Evans, who runs Davids studio and did such an amazing job installing and curating the de Young show. And finally with a young French sailor also named Kevin who is the godson and nephew of another of Davids studio mangers, Jean-Pierre. Indeed, Kevin is one of the stars of the Hockney exhibit. His portrait in his French sailors uniform has its own wall in the room filled with portraits. And hes on some of the banners around San Francisco heralding the show. You can see him fluttering above Union Square. I admit I was fluttering a bit myself in his presence tonight. It was not only his first time in San Francisco, it was his first time in America. A charming young man.
