After the Greasy Spoon breakfast binge of the past few weeks, time for something healthy. At the top of Pratumnak Hill coming from town, turn right in front of the police station, head downhill until you get to the top of the cliff overlooking the sea. Turn right along this road.The area is known as Cosy Beach after the hotel of the same name. On the corner, as the coast road arrives in front of the Cosy Beach Hotel, youll see the Twins Bakery and Restaurant on your right. Used to live in Cosy Beach and when I wasnt eating at Richards Wishing Well (excellent pub-style grub and English breakfasts from 10am), Twins offered a good and healthy alternative. Word of warning though, dont be tempted by the American Breakfast. Say no more... So this morning I had the rather inadequately named Cereal Breakfast, 189 baht. They could have thought up something more descriptive and appealing for a meal that includes dried fruit and fresh fruit, toast and jam, fresh real coffee, a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, and almost as an afterthought, a bowl of cornflakes. Delicious, and nice not to feel completely stuffed after breakfast for a change. You can eat inside in the very extensive air-conditioned dining area, or on a big outdoor terrace overlooking the sea. Lovely views - see the pics. I wouldnt bother heading down to the beach afterwards though, especially if you fancy a swim. As usual in Pattaya the developers have been given free rein to massively expand the area without giving a moments thought to the supporting infrastructure. The drainage is terribly inadequate, and despite claims to the contrary, grey water runs straight onto the cliff without going anywhere near a treatment plant, channeling its way down to the sea. How anyone can go for a swim anyway near highly developed areas along Thailands coastlines is beyond me. A final word on Twins. The staff are super efficient and very friendly. The decor is attractive, the seating - both wicker chairs and soft armchairs inside and out, very comfortable. Plenty of cakes, croissants and the like to tempt you in the bakery shop on the way out too...
