After the Half Marathon Summit I am inspired to be part of the chocolate team. I am, however getting ready for a marathon thats in mid September so my miles will at times be higher than half marathon training needs to be. That being said I did 16.2 very muggy miles this morning, my third 16+ in the past 4 weeks. Folks be smart, be safe. Hydrate prior to and during your long runs. If its too hot or too challenging that day, back off, reduce your distance or intensity or walk. I love training and a good hard work out but do not do it to peril. Theres always another day. Do not push through an injury possibly making it worse. Back off, walk, cross train and take care of the affected area. We want you on that line we need you on that line. There are a number of different ways to work on pacing or speed but your long run is not specifically for that. There is nothing wrong with using it as a pacing tool but its not the design of the long run. Part of its purpose is to get used to being out there that long. If it gets discouraging looking at the days pace, stop looking at your watch, GPS that day. If you havent started training I encourage you to start soon. Okay Im done with the advice except for saying have fun as you prepare to own that amusement park. If we are ever in the same part of town or are willing to meet in the same part of town and our times match I would enjoy running with you.
