After the Snowden revelations showed that the United States was scooping up huge amounts of data on innocent Brazilians, Brazilian companies, Brazilian diplomats and Brazils president, President Dilma Rousseff canceled a rare and coveted state visit to the United States and led a global movement against NSA mass spying. Showing some of the first tangible diplomatic benefits of Obamas opening to Cuba, Folha senior columnist Clovis Rossi writes that U.S. relations with Cuba have altered the dynamic of U.S.-Brazil relations, and that Rousseff is ready to turn the page. Before the spying episode, Brazil-U.S. relations had never been better. … For Dilma, the significance of Cuba normalization goes well beyond U.S.-Cuba relations.
