After travelling with Wightlink two or three a times a week since - TopicsExpress

After travelling with Wightlink two or three a times a week since starting the company and spending around £6,000 per annum, it has now got to a point where the costs are stupid. When we started four years ago we were spending around £36.50 per return on a multilink ticket this slowly rose to around £42.50. Then with the introduction of the new pass (which was supposed to be a great new deal for multilink holders!) they decided to reduce the standard length from 6m to 5m my pickup is 5.295m long I could not get a new pass. By the way I really liked the way Wightlink kept the details of the new pass confidential until the day before the launch of the new fare system! Then suddenly they decided to introduce a special up to 6m pass, at an additional cost, obviously. Still I didnt mind a little more was ok as the pickup is longer so ok. Bought 50 returns had used 47 of them when suddenly I get pulled over in Portsmouth and told cant travel with that as your pickup is registered as a LGV and not a PLG, but I have travelled for 47 journeys? Luckily I still had some of my old Multilink tickets so could get home otherwise I was expected to pay £95 pounds for a single. The real kicker with this is that I had bought a years worth of multilink tickets before the new pass had been issued, because of the sketchy details over the new pass, I was then persuaded to swap them for the new pass as it would be better for me! as I could book online etc... When I pointed this out to wightlink I was told that they only had my word for this and that their staff would not have given any such advice as I pointed out to them if they looked at their computer system they could see that I had bought loads of multilink tickets on the day before the new new pass came into being then swapped them the next day. Ho hum just reinforced never trust wighlink. Anyway complained to customer service when I found out that the new charge for crossing was going to be £160.00 return!!!!!! But after loads of complaining they said they could do a special deal of £82.00. I fully appreciate that wightlink are not a charity and are in business and need to make a profit, but what I dont understand is why my pickup if registered as a PLG can go for £52.00 return but because its registered as a LGV would cost between £82.00 to £160.00 It takes up the same amount of space it weighs the same, so far no one from whightlink has been able to give a sensible answer. On a final note when we book we are paying for the length of vehicle i.e. up to 5m or 6m etc. We should do a length to rule on the ferry and when the guy is trying to get you within millimetres during boarding we should all stop within our 5m or 6m space after all we have paid for that much space. I will however in future be travelling Red Funnel who will take my pickup for £42.50 return irrespective of the time of year with no restrictions on travel and up to 5 passengers.
