After watching the Pistons in 04, my sporting curiosity took over. I expanded my focus from just football to basketball and football. Steve Nash was one of the first players to catch my attention. It was after I watched the NBA for a whole season, did I realize, just how important his role was. Before that I would ask myself, Why cant he dunk, everyone dunks? But his role was more than slashing through the hole and finishing hard at the cup. His career was built on a consistent outside shot and flashy passes that dazzled the fans. To me, there was nothing like watching the ultimate pick and roll that consisted with a solid bounce pass, and a dominating finish by Amare Stoudamire. Steve Nashs career can only be described as a successful one, and his success would start before he even hit the pros. Born in South Africa in 1974, Steve and his family eventually moved to the west coast of Canada, this lead to Nash finding interest in the NBA. He went on to play college ball at Santa Clara in California. The basketball program hadnt had any kind of success for the previous five years, and only went above .500 once of the last three years. Steve would change that pattern for the Broncos, leading them to the Tounament three out of four years of his eligibility. All though never getting past the second round, just by leading his team to The Big Dance, Steve had proven he could be a cornerstone for any organization. In the NBA, drafted by the Pheonix Suns 15th overall. In his first season, he seen limited playing time. The plan was to have him be an understudy to Kevin Johnson, and basically learn the game from all aspects. His second season, he didnt play as much either, however; he was viewed to be one of the most improved players by landing 13th in the league for 3 point percentage. Steve Nash obviously isnt what he used to be. But he will still go down as one of the best pure point guards of All Time. Winning the MVP award twice throught his 18 year career. Hes 3rd All Time in Assists, 12th All Time in 3 pointers made, and 9th All Time in 3 point percentage. So we salute you Mr. Nash, and gives thanks for an amazing career.
