After watching the video of the incident in Manhattan, NY between the motorcycle group and the SUV I am very disturbed. I ride with a non-affiliated group. When we ride our group size can be upwards of 30 motorcycles. It is not uncommon to encircle a vehicle (car/SUV). It is also not uncommon for someone to try and signal the car to slow down and allow the motorcyclist to pass as a group as was attempted by the motorcyclist that got in front of the car and slowed down. He clearly in the video shown on CNN gave the signal to slow down. Instead the SUV did the opposite and hit the motorcyclist causing a crash and injury to the motorcyclist (a broken leg). After the SUV attempted to leave the scene of the accident a pursuit occurred with unfortunate results including injury to additional motorcyclist and the SUV driver. I understand the SUV driver may have panicked when surrounded by the group and may not have understood the signal. His using the SUV as a weapon was not a logical decision but an emotional one which did not turn out well for him. Obviously the group did not want to harm his family or they would have been injured at the same time as the SUV driver. People need to understand that every group of motorcycle riders are not a motorcycle gang. We are simply a group of motorcycle enthusiasts out to have a good time and not cause harm to anyone. Safety is our major concern as we all want to return home safe at the end of the ride. We understand that in a conflict between a motorcycle and a SUV or any other 4 wheel or greater vehicle the motorcycle loses.
