After youve had lots of turkey to digest, here is something else to chew on .. L optica and var rubra. I have been browsing the internet in a quest for best cultivation method for this species because it always got me headaches with eventualy losing them, and some remarks lead me to investigate on the habitat. Leaving out some of the details, here is the main observation. Habitat is somewhere near Luderitz, Namibia. Nothing wrong this far. Habitat is near the seaside, but climatological data are confusing to say the least. High Summer Temps average (right now) is 23°C day and 14°C night, average rainfall 7mm High Winter temps average is 22°C day and 11°C night, average rainfall 2mm Year average rainfall is somewhere between 20 and 50 mm rain, but with frequent fogs. Relative air humidity is almost constant over the whole year except for an amazing dry dip in the first two weeks of July. Now, when/what is this plants growing/flowering trigger ??? Speaking of confusing growing conditions? I found a forum comment by a certain Mr John Gamesby ( ;-) ) who said that he kept them in growing conditions year round. Given the above that does not seem strange at all but what is the take on this by other members here, after the chewing, that is ? .. and do I need to build a warm cupboard in my greenhouse?
