Afternoon Kamalapua Fans! Here is a wonderful tactile, sensory, pre-writing activity for children: Feather Tip Salt Writing. Salt has the benefit of being slightly translucent so you can provide a guide sheet underneath for children to follow as they learn to write their name, draw shapes or just squiggle. In addition to coloring the salt by rubbing sidewalk chalk or adding power paint to it in a bag, color can be added to the activity by placing colored paper in the tray before adding the salt. Giving children a feather to write with adds another tactile element for them to experience. The children may use the stick end of the feather to write in their salt and the feathered end to erase their writing and start all over again.
