Again I asked myself same questions today. What is wrong with a blackman? Why are we so bugged down and refused to catch up with human progress, breakthroughs and developments happening around us. I have heard and read about the Dubai and Abu Dhabi wonders and how man has conquered nature and limitations to advance better living standards. I decided to stop over to spend 3 days to explore and experience UAE on my return trip from the UK just to feed my fantasies, one as a student of development and two as a person with huge interest in governance and public policy. Abu Dhabi and Dubai should rank as parts of the wonders of the world. The two cities are good testaments to vision, leadership and power of imagination. Whatever a man can think he can make happen. Man is truely limited by how far his thinking can go. I have travelled to many countries around the world I dare say I have not seen any city as clean, organised and deliberately planned to make living as exciting and eventful as Dubai. To even know that Dubai is a city whose glory and splendour was created out of a desert within the last 30years made me ask the question when shall we as black people in Nigeria and Africa give the rest of the world reason to accept we are a people with ability for rational thinking and not sub-humans. Even South Africa that has been described as Europe transposed on Africa was made possible by Oyinbos. For how long shall we conyinue to blame outsiders-imperialism, neo-colonialism and all what not for our under-development when other parts of the world are breaking barriers and making things happen. I concluded within me that something is essentially wrong with a blackman. Dont know if I can blame God too. For us to even begin our journey to real progress, we must change our leadership recruitment criteria. Serious people must be voted and appointed into our leadership cadres. May be and just may be there could be an accident of redemption.
