Agartala, January 17:Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Aghore Debbarma today announced the 36thKokborok Day celebration from January 18-January 19. The minister said that the state government is committed to developing indigenous languages, literatures and culture forms and the celebration would mark the commitment to the cause.Addressing the press at a press conference here, Tribal Welfare Minister Aghore Debbarma said that the celebration of 36thKokborok Day would be marked by a seminar on identity and mother language. A massive rally with tiny tots, poets summit, quiz contests and felicitation functions would mark the second day of the programme.Tribal Welfare Minister Aghore Debbarma would be inaugurating the celebration on its first day. Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) – Ranjt Debbarma is scheduled to chair the session.A wide range of programmes including recitations of poems, music performances etc onindigenous literature and music would be involved in the celebration.The state cabinet recently resolved to create 25 top executive positions in the newly formed Directorate of Kokborok and Other Minority Languages. Kokborok is currently taught in 943 schools of the state. Halam-Kuki languages are taught in 49 schools, Chakma language is taught in 58 schools of the state. Two other minority languages of the state – Manipuri and Bishnupriya Manipuri are taught in 36 and 49 schools of the state.
