Agforce Projects - Media Release Queensland landholders encouraged to remain informed on CSG after new legislation is passed 10 October 2014 AgForce Projects is encouraging landholders to remain informed about resource development including coal and coal seam gas (CSG), after proposed changes to mining legislation and land access were passed through Queensland Parliament in September. CSG Project Officer Daniel Phipps said the Mineral and Energy Resources (Common Provisions) Bill 2014 indicates that objection rights for large mines will be changed - which affect both landholders and the wider community - and it is important to stay informed. The Bill proposes a range of changes including amendments to the current right of objection and the definition of restricted land; but the changes will also give effect to the recommendations of the Land Access Implementation Committee which includes some positive outcomes for landholders, Mr Phipps said. Mr Phipps encourages landholders to remain aware of changes, not only to legislation, but developments in the CSG industry, as peak production is yet to occur. There are approximately 5,000 production wells across Queensland and CSG production is expected to peak over the next 10 to 15 years increasing the number of wells to between 20,000 and 40,000 - meaning those landholders not yet affected by industry may be approached by resource companies down the line. Landholders that already have an agreement with a CSG company should also remain informed, as agreements may change as activities do and staying up to date with recent developments will help landholders negotiate better agreements down the line. These AgForce Projects workshops aim to equip landholders with the information they need to get the most out of their agreements with resource companies and how to best review agreements and to enforce provisions. The AgForce Projects CSG team will be delivering much-needed support and assistance to landholders at free workshops in: Monto - 28 October Moura - 29 October Wandoan - 30 October Dalby - 31 October Landholders will hear about industry developments and be taken through the land access and Make Good negotiation process to ensure the best outcome for their property. The Projects team will also provide information on proposed changes to the Land Access Framework, as well as groundwater and biosecurity issues that may arise due to resource activities on property. For more information or to register visit agforceprojects.org.au. AgForce Projects CSG Project is delivered free with the support of the Queensland Government, the GasFields Commission Queensland, the Queensland Resources Council and Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association.
