Agreeing with God 1 John 1:9 NKJV “If we confess our sins, He - TopicsExpress

Agreeing with God 1 John 1:9 NKJV “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” The Apostle John first states the truth about God, saying “This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5 NIV). Then in the next two verses, John begins to compare and contrast Light and Darkness. He says the following: “If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1:6-7 NIV). Then the John compares and contrasts Sin and Forgiveness. John says the following: “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” (1 John 1:8-10 NKJV). Here we have the key for bringing together sinful man and a Holy God, it is confession of sins. The Greek word for confess in verse 9 is homologos meaning to speak the same, to agree, or to be of one mind. When the Apostle John says that “we ought to confess our sins,” he is saying to us that when God says something is sin, then we ought to see it from God’s reference point and agree with Him. We ought to say “Yes, Lord it is sin. I did sin.” That is what it means to confess our sins. It is to agree with God. It is more than coming clean with God, as if God does not see the deepest desires of our hearts. Confessing our sins means to conform our hearts to God’s own heart, so that we call sin, sin and see it for what it really is. Confessing our sins is about humbly submitting to the Holy Spirit’s transforming power so that our will aligns with God’s will and our purpose in life becomes God’s purpose so we speak the truth of God, and our lives agree with God’s truth, and our mind is focus on God. Can you imagine how powerful the church would be if in all things we simply agree with God, if we were all on the same page as God, if we all spoke His truth in action, and if our minds were focus on God? There would be many free people in the church doing the will of the Father and fulfilling His purpose. How awesome that would be? God is your Heavenly Father. You are in His family. If you have lost your way, return home to Him. God will restore you. “If you confess your sins, He is faithful and just to forgive you your sins.” Find your way home my friend. Open your heart to your Heavenly Father, and talk to Him. Get over on His side and see the solutions to your problems. Get over on His side and see your sins as they really are. Get over on His side and see how to overcome your weaknesses. Confess it all to your Heavenly Father. And enjoy the peace and love that comes to you from His grace when you agree with Him. Hold on to these truths my friends for it will strengthen your faith till the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
