Agriculture is a major contributor towards our national growth; the sector employs 45% of country’s labour and adds 25% to our total GDP. A significant segment of Pakistan’s population is living in rural areas and agriculture is their main source of sustenance. However, despite producing one-fourth of our GDP, the sector remains bereft of the relevant emerging technologies in the field that are being adopted around the world for efficient production: the science of agricultural Biotechnology. Biotechnology is affecting different aspects of human lives and has a great potential for solving the challenges of food requirements. The technology has huge potential for crop improvement, food production and reducing poverty.
