Agro-economy The agriculture sector remains the backbone of our rural economy and the main source of income for over seventy percent of the population. Seventy-five percent of the population in Sindh depends on small-scale agriculture for subsistence. Unfortunately, Sindh’s agricultural potential remains critically hampered by the lack of access to modern technologies and to appropriate financial schemes and institutional support. The population explosion poses a continuous challenge to the province in balancing an increasing demand for food which has no correlation with our production capacities. The country’s rulers are requested to take pragmatic steps to improve the agriculture sector and marketing of the yields out of the province. Saving soil from erosion, lifting people out of the poverty and limiting environmental degradation in the province are some of the steps that require urgent action.thenews.pk/Todays-News-11-292260-Agro-economy Hashim Abro
