Agste laan goes electric Augetto Graig Wednesday, April 30, 2014 - 08:00 The City of Windhoek is busy redesigning Agste Laan, also known as Otjomuise Extensions 6 and 7, to make it easier to provide residents with electricity. According to city officials the streets and roads infrastructure in this area is small, making it difficult for the municipality’s electricity department to install services especially provision for individual electric connections. To remedy this situation the city’s town planning department is currently busy redesigning the area to widen the streets. As soon as that is completed the city will roll out electric connections to the affected communities. In the interim high masts will be set up to help provide lighting within the area. The city is also busy extending the installation of the high masts in Havana settlement as per the community request. The design has already been completed by the consultant and the process is in due course to appoint a contract for the setting up of the mass light. The design for the electrical reticulation for Havana Proper and Havana Extension 1 will be carried out during the next financial year 2014/2015. Windhoek Municipality has received a request from the Mix Settlement residents through the office of the governor for the installation of high mast light in that area and the design of the mass lights already in process. So far the City of Windhoek has provided individual electric connections for around 400 housing units in areas including Otjomuise, Okuryangava, Goreangab Dam, Havana, and Wanaheda. Residents engaged in illegal electricity connection are urged to refrain from doing so.
