Ahhhhh, Japan. The city police officers stationed at Shijo Karasuma station, one of two stations located in the center of downtown Kyoto, arent even carrying guns. On the busiest day of the year! This is the first day of Kyotos biggest festival--Gion Matsuri. Theyre wearing the belts, but their holsters are empty. There are a lot of scary, backwards things about this country I love... Especially if you are a woman, of mixed heritage, an immigrant, or a foreigner. But this is probably the closest to civilized Ive ever seen... Of course Times Square is like this everyday... But at Times Square the cops are armed to the teeth
