Al Kuhn Jr Scooter owns this 1972 nova. He likes the look of the 1968 1969 Novas so he retrofit pieces to give has Nova that appearance. In his own words Scooter tells us about his journey with his Nova. I was a freshman in high school and badly wanted my moms 1995 Subaru Impreza. My dad had been on me for a while to get a older muscle car. At this time nothing was going to change my mind. It wasnt until we went to National Nostalgic Nova to get some parts for my dad. There I found myself looking at a Big block Chevy engine sitting there waiting to go into a car. Wayne, knew I wanted the Subaru said You cant fit that into a Subaru. My true love was a 1965 Nova SS but later came to love the 68-72 body style. That Fall at Carlisle I found myself looking at a 72 Nova that had a LOT wrong with it. The guy wanted way to much money for the car. My dad said the right one will come along and this one is not it. One night we were coming home and a car was sitting in the driveway. It looked like the same dark green as the car from Carlisle but it wasnt. I said whos car is that? My dad replied Its yours if you want it. The deal with Wayne was made car for $100.00 and agreeing to paint it red. That was easy enough. The car needed a ton of metal work. Quarters needed replaced along with hood. Just about every panel had bad rust. At one point I think I wish I was sponsored by POR15. The car was finished about two weeks before my senior year. I drove the car all year rain and snow. At one point I was getting 22 miles a gallon. Later that next summer I decided to do some performance upgrades including a cam and heads. This was great until I dropped a valve. The next motor was a 383 small block with a Muncie m-21. Later I upgraded the 10 bolt rear with 3.42 gears, locker and axles. At this time I went from the rally wheels to the copo style dog dish wheels. In 2010 driving home from the Endless Summer Cruising Ocean city the engine crank snapped in half, although the car did still run. At this point in my life I was getting married. It took time but I saved up my money and started collecting parts to make my dream motor. The plan was a 572 Big Block Chevy using a zz572 short block. We got everything in pieces and built it ourselves. Upgraded the cylinder heads to a set of Dart Pro 1 325s untouched with 2.30 valves and titanium retainers. To go along with that I got a custom billet racing cam with an LS1 firing order. With a Dart single plane intake, pro systems 1000 cfm carb, and Lemons custom made headers it gets air in as well as it does out. All this is still backed by a Muncie trans and the 10 bolt with new 3.90 gears. The goal for improvements are an overdrive trans, a stronger rear, some sort of boost and an overall complete car detailing. All and all its a fun car, especially to drive.
