Photo: Freedom House Al-Qaeda’s al-Nusra Front and other fanatical Islamic mercenaries fighting to overthrow the Syrian government have rejected the Syrian National Coaliton (SNC), the loosely organized front group cobbled together by the CIA and NATO. “The National Coalition and the proposed government under [recently chosen] Ahmad Tomeh does not represent us, nor do we recognize it,” the Islamic groups said in a statement released late Tuesday. “These forces call on all military and civilian groups to unite in a clear Islamic context that… is based on sharia law, making it the sole source of legislation.” The statement called for “unity” and demanded all mercenary groups “reject division… putting the interest of the [Islamic] nation over the interest of each group.” The SNC is comprised primarily of a trusted CIA asset, the Muslim Brotherhood. It is recognized by a number of United Nations member states as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people. The SNC paramilitary wing is the Free Syrian Army (FSA), a largely ineffectual military force trained and supported by the MI6, the CIA, and British SAS. The FSA has suffered a number of humiliating military defeats at the hands of the Syrian Army. In February, 2012, we noted that the Free Syrian Army is widely recognized as a creation of NATO. It is also comprised largely of militants from the Muslim Brotherhood – an asset of British intelligence – and is funded, supported, and armed by the United States, Israel, and Turkey. The establishment readily admits that Jabhat al-Nusra is the most potent mercenary fighting force in Syria. In April, Abu Mohamed al-Jawlani, the leader of al-Nusra, pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda boss Ayman al-Zawahiri. A former al-Qaeda member, Sheikh Naiim, believes al-Jawlani works for the CIA. “I personally believe that the leader of the Nusra Army who declared his support for Ayman al-Zawahiri is a CIA operative,” Naiim said on April 10. If correct, Naiim’s claim would mean the CIA controls not only the SNC and its ineffectual paramilitary wing, the FSA, but also Jabhat al-Nusra and other Islamic groups fighting to overthrow the Bashir al-Assad regime and install authoritarian rule under sharia law in Syria. This conforms to a pattern stretching back to the beginning of the Afghan civil war in the 1980s when the CIA and Pakistani intelligence trained and Saudi Arabia funded the Afghan Mujahadeen.
