Al-Risalah of Imam Shafie - The Muslim Philosophy of Thinking Imam Al-Shafie was a genius and his work Al-Risalah was unprecedented in the history of mankind. For the first time in centuries, Imam Al-Shafie taught the world how to think outside the box. Throughout the ages people had ways of thinking but a certain methodical way of thinking was introduced to the world by Greek philosophers and logicians such as Aristotle and Plato. This way of thinking was adopted by many, including Muslim philosophers and Islamic scholars. Muslims were applying Greek thinking to the Quran and the Sunnah. Imam Al-Shafie came in the 8th Century CE to pose a serious challenge to this way of thinking. He could clearly see how Greek and Hellenistic thinking had corrupted Christianity and how the Muslims were following suit. So he wrote Al-Risalah to explain to the Muslims and the world what is the Muslim Philosophy of Thinking. This is your opportunity to get to know this profound effort of Imam Al-Shafie with this historic seminar coming up this weekend with Shaykh Dr Mohammad Akram Nadwi - one of the foremost scholars, researchers and thinkers in the world today. This will be the first ever seminar of its kind looking at the ideas and works of Imam Shafie. Please have a look at the following 2-minute video to get a taste of what is to come in the weekend seminar in London and Online Worldwide. You can either enrol for the individual seminar or sign up for the whole diploma programme with a 60% discount. Mahdi to explain the significance of the Quran and the Sunnah, and their relationship, for deriving the law. The Risalah is a brilliant exposition of the basic principles of and argumentation in Islamic law. It is the first explicit formulation of the terms and discipline of usul al-fiqh. We will highlight how this discipline evolved, and then how it developed in later centuries. - Dr Mohammad Akram Nadwi I know many orientalists who study this work find it very hard to believe such an advanced work could have been done so early on in the history of Islam. But we have manuscripts of al-Risala written by Imam Shafies students. - Dr Mohammad Akram Nadwi 24 Page Brochure: bit.ly/cicdicit_brochure Testimonials “I have done 4 years of Islamic Studies at an Islamic institute. I was therefore not sure how much I would benefit from the diploma “Introduction to Classical Islamic Texts”. Then I decided to attend anyway with the intention of at least revising my Islamic studies. Also I was not sure how I could follow the course as English is not my first language. But just after a few minutes of attending I was highly impressed. The professional organization made it very easy for me to catch up on the missed classes. The online live-class with high technical standards and the facility to ask questions was very beneficial. So far the class has not only been a revision but much more than that. Dr Akram Nadwi has very high qualities and the depth he goes into is phenomenal. He covers many details which are indeed very hard to find anywhere else. Therefore this course, in my view, is unique in terms of the content as well as the organization. I’m quite sure that I will attend the next series as well. I would recommend these classes to everyone. Thank you very much for Cambridge Islamic Sciences Worldwide for their efforts and for providing such great seminars.” - Saber Ben Neticha, Frankfurt, Germany
