Al and I went to high school together in Maryland. He was the nicest guy in school and always quick with a smile. He was also the best dancer in school. The kid had moves! I didnt know much about his love for racewalking or that it was even a sport. I just knew that Al ran track. In the spring/early summer of 1992, Al and I drove to a huge race (AAU?) he was competing in at Clemson, in SC. We listened to the Pete Rock song, below, to and from that race. He left for Wisconsin later that year and I left for the Army in 1993. Al and I stayed in touch while he was in college and from time to time while he was out in San Diego.
